Class 1 – Mrs Snow

Welcome to Class 1!

This year our team is, myself Mrs Snow, Mrs Allen and Mrs Silverwood and in the afternoons,  buy prednisone canada online Miss Ward and Mrs Shutt. We are a happy class of learners using lots of different approaches to ensure that we all achieve in our own way.

I love active learning and this year we are using continuous access to provision to enhance children’s learning experiences. I really enjoy real reasons for learning especially anything to do with food, so there is always some sort of baking, tasting and making involved in our exciting topics. This year in year one, we have topics designed to grab all our children’s attentions and engage them in new learning in fun ways.

This year I am also lead throughout school in Writing, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and Rights Respecting.

Reading: Please ensure all children read at least 3 times a week. Proud points are earned and there are prizes to be won. Throughout the week your child will be heard read at least once a week individually and their book will be changed. I cannot say what days this will be on so please ensure book bags are in school every day.

Spellings: Spellings will be put into learning logs on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday. Short, regular practices at home are most effective alongside lots of colour!

Homework: We send home a homework menu – this will provide a choice of activities to have a go at throughout the term. They will mostly be creative and hopefully fun!

PE: This term PE is on a Monday and Thursday. However, it is easier if PE kit is left in school for the half term.

I am nearly always available to talk to after school and if there are ever any issues do not hesitate to ask. I will try my best to answer your questions. I am really looking forward to helping your children grow!

What are we learning? – Autumn 1 Term 2018/19

Let’s get packing!

As Geographers we will … compare and contrast holiday destinations in England to those in Africa. We will look at and compare the weather and what clothes to pack for each place. We will look on maps and Google Earth to find our destinations and learn the name of the continents they are in. We will also look at the different land features and learn some new words to describe them. We will use our ‘explorer’ area to investigate the world.

As Historians we will … look a little about holidays in the past and compare them to holidays now. We will learn about the changes in the way that we travel on holiday and study significant historical characters such as the Wright brothers who invented the plane.

As Scientists we will … investigate, research and learn about the types of animals that live in Africa. We will learn the language of predator and prey. We will look at basic food webs and how animals are similar to humans in their survival needs.

As Readers we will … be focusing on phonics. We will also be meeting our reading characters and having a go at answering different types of questions using these.

As Artists and Designers we will … be very creative! We will create camouflage pictures by looking at animal patterns and making our own prints. We will explore cultural masks and design and make our own using a variety of materials. We will explore Tinga-Tinga art work and use it to improve our fine motor skills. We will also use design techniques to create and make lighthouses and pulley systems. We will access our areas to explore our own art and design projects.

As Mathematicians we will … be securing our place value of numbers to 10 and 20. We will be solving problems, ordering and recognising these numbers. We will meet lots of maths challenges around the room in the different areas of learning.

In RE we will … be beginning to explore ourselves. We will be asking ‘Who am I?’ we will also begin to explore Christianity and listen to and explore a Christian Bible story.

As Writers we will … be writing labels, lists and captions for the texts that we are reading. We will be using our independent writing skills in all our learning areas. We will write our own story based on Handa’s Surprise.

As Responsible Citizens we will … learn about being different. We will explore different food and traditions from home and in Africa. We will also learn about the Right to being safe.

As Enterprising Learners we will … be reflective learners. We will look at our work and think what we have done well and how could we improve next time.

We will celebrate our learning by … creating a beautiful floor book. We will also start our own learning journey books and learn to be proud of our work. We will show we have met challenges by building our rainbows.
